The constellation of Eridanus, 105 light-years away from the Solar System, contains a high proper speed red dwarf star known as LP 890-9, which has a mass of 12% and 15% of the Sun’s radius, and a temperature At 2,871 K (2,598 °C; 4,708 °F), it is the second coldest star to host a planetary system after TRAPPIST-1.  Researchers discovered LP 890-9b using the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), and LP 890-9c was discovered during follow-up observations of LP 890-9b, Both these planets fall in the super-Earth category.

The researchers found that the two planets are comparatively quiet, and are orbiting the red-dwarf star, LP 890-9, an inner planet that is about 30% larger than Earth, With an estimated temperature of 253 °F (123 °C), it is too hot for human life, but LP 890-9c is an outer planet, it is colder at an estimated 30 Fahrenheit (minus 1.1 Celsius), and remains close to its star. LP 890-9c orbits within the habitable zone of its star, LP 890-9c is a favorable target for atmospheric characterization, researchers have discovered the planet through a ground-based telescope survey, Eclipse of Ultra-cool Stars.

The actual temperature of these two planets depends on their atmospheres, but nothing is known about them, LP 890-9c’s atmosphere has given rise to the greenhouse effect, which could be similar to that of Venus in the future. These two planets orbit their stars tightly, where a year on planet LP 890-9 b is only 2.7 days, while a year on planet LP 890-9 c is 8.5 days.

LP 890-9 is a much smaller and cooler star than our Sun, and the planet LP 890-9c is orbiting closely within the star’s habitable zone, and researchers have added this new planet to the world’s discovery list. LP 890-9c may be investigated in the future by the James Webb Space Telescope, webb has begun to study the gases present in the exoplanet’s atmosphere, the webb telescope’s instruments include spectrographs, which can be used to observe the exoplanet’s atmosphere.
